Counterfeit notes warning to traders
POLICE are advising all traders across F District to be on the outlook for counterfeit currency.
“Counterfeit notes are known to be offered in a number of ways, and not just in shops,” a police spokesman said.
He added: “At the weekend, we received a report that money paid to buy car parts that had been for sale on an internet auction site were counterfeit.
“In follow-up enquiries, police searched a house in Co Down and seized a quantity of cash in counterfeit notes. Two men were arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.
“We advise anyone handling money in a cash transaction to check notes as thoroughly as possible. Learn to know what genuine notes look like, and be suspicious of anything that falls short of expectations.”
Detailed advice is available from local Crime Prevention Officers.
