Deputy Mayor ‘delighted’ by OBE recipients’ recognition

A COMMUNITY worker and a Girl Guide leader, both from Augher, have been rewarded for their voluntary service by the Queen in the Birthday Honours List.

Mrs Margaret Irene Boyd received an Order of the British Empire medal for her services to the community, while Mrs Edith Eleanor Boyd received a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her dedication to the Girl Guide Movement in Northern Ireland.

Deputy Mayor Frances Burton congratulated the two women for being recognised by the Queen.

“These two local women have obviously put in a lot of commitment over the years and their efforts have been justly rewarded”, she said.

“I’m sure the Girls Guide movement are thrilled that their local representative has achieved such a high honour.

“It is amazing how many people like Margaret and Edith are out there working behind the scenes for the good of our community and our young people. If it weren’t for these people giving their time and commitment week after week these local clubs and organisations would cease to exist.” The deputy mayor said that the whole of the Clogher Valley was united in congratulating the two Augher women.

“People like Margaret and Edith make a huge sacrifice for the greater good and I’m delighted to see them rewarded at the highest level.”

Other winners from Tyrone include Omagh woman Clare McGartland, Lead Allied Health Professions Consultant, Public Health Agency, for services to Healthcare; Cookstown man John Bryan Dunlop for voluntary service to the community in County Tyrone; and Jean Rea from Omagh for her services to the community.
