Derrylaughan ‘parade’ causes a stir with onlookers
Uncle Andy (John Joe Coney) and Billy (Aiden Taggart) are interviewed by a newscrew for Give My Head Pace... About Derrylaughan
THOSE travelling through Derrylaughan on Saturday morning last may have been surprised to see rioting break out at the Washingbay Corner between Orangemen and Nationalist protestors.
The rioting came about following the inaugural ‘parade’ by ‘Washingbay L.O.L.’ the short distance from Derrylaughan GAA field to the Washingbay Corner.
The ‘parade’ and rioting however was not of the serious variety as members of Derrylaughan Kevin Barry’s GAA club filmed scenes for the upcoming comedic presentation “Give My Head Pace...About Derrylaughan” in Coalisland Parochial Centre.
The production is loosely based on the hit BBC NI series Give My Head Peace.
Members of the club dressed in costume and were accomapanied by a ‘flute’ band and drummer while protestors took up position along the route.
Among those taking part in the parade here stars of the play Uncle Andy (John Joe Coney) and former Barry’s player Kevin Coary as well as a number of familiar local faces including boxing figure Frank Gervin and Tyrone hurler Mike O’Gorman.
Members of the club may also have been spotted in the Coalisland area on Thursday night last as the Olympic Torch relay was re-created by members of the cast.
Rehersals under the direction of Brian Morgan have been underway for a number of weeks now and tickets for the 7th and 8th of September shows are selling well.
If you still haven’t got your hands on tickets you can pick them up in Falls Bar, Brocagh Vivo, Forbes Ardboe, Costcutter Moortown, Frank McGirr’s, Beer Shed and boy2men all in Coalisland.
