A bridge on the Grillagh River, which marks the border of the new Drumnaph Community Nature Reserve. Carntogher Development Association are intending that their new reserve will bridge the gap between people and nature.

CARNTOGHER Community Association would like to invite anyone who is interested to get involved in the development of a major new landmark project for Mid-Ulster – the Drumnaph Nature Reserve.

With the generous help of the Heritage Lottery Fund and the NI Environment Agency, Carntogher recently purchased 135 acres of mixed farmland, ancient woodland, wetland and bog.

This land lies alongside the existing Drumnaph Woodland Reserve, which was created over a decade ago.

This new section will extend the Reserve to over 210 acres opening up a wide range of possibilities for nature conservation, community recreation, health and wellbeing as well as volunteering, training and education opportunities.

The Association proposes opening up this extended site for community recreational uses by providing, for example, interpretative walks, fitness trails and other recreational facilities, whilst enhancing the site’s nature conservation value through managing the various habitats and through additional tree planting.

We would like the local community and the wider Mid-Ulster community to get involved in this landmark project so that it can become an important community asset for the entire wider Mid-Ulster area.

If you are interested in any way in helping out with this important project in any way please contact either Claire or Réamaí on 028 7954 9978.
