Housing Executive spends £1.5 million on improving homes in Cookstown

THE Northern Ireland Housing Executive has spent almost £1.5 million improving homes in Coosktown.

Almost 80 homes in the district benefited from new state-of-the-art kitchens, while another 71 are set to benefit from the improvement scheme in the coming months.

Speaking about the investment in the Cookstown District, Housing Manager, Ivan Armstrong commented: said: “In Cookstown 77 of our tenants are benefitting from a total refit of kitchens with new, modern, high quality kitchens provided. A further 71 tenants will benefit from scheme due to start before the end of the financial year.

Mr ARmstrong continued: “As a responsible landlord and as the Home Energy Conservation Authority for Northern Ireland, we aim to make our homes as comfortable and as energy efficient as possible.

“We started heating replacement schemes to over 80 homes - a major boost for our tenants where their old, inefficient systems are replaced with more efficient gas or oil systems.

“In addition to these schemes we will have carried out external improvements to 130 homes by the end of march and spent over £333,000 carrying out routine repairs to tenants’ homes.”

Donald Hoodless, Chairman of the Housing Executive also welcomed the substantial investment which is part of a £53 million improvement scheme throughout the province.

He said: “We will continue to prioritise and invest in our stock to ensure all our tenants live in homes which meet modern day living standards as well as contributing to the local economy with local contractors. Over the coming weeks we will be investing a further £20 million in schemes to improve homes.”
