ICD Exhibition of Art, Design and Moving Images

PARENTS and special guests were delighted to attend Integrated College Dungannon for an ‘Exhibition of Art, Design and Moving Images’. All the work on show was that of GCSE, AS and A’Level students.

Many special guests attended the event including; Deputy Mayor Councillor, Frances Burton of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council and Lord Mayor Councillor, Sharon Haughey of Armagh City and District Council.

Also present was local artist, Dermot Cavanagh who spent time speaking to the students at each of their work stations both admiring the work on view and offering advice to those students intending to pursue a career in Art.

Speaking at the event, Dermot added, “I am delighted to have received an invitation to this exhibition. I was aware that it was GCSE, AS and A’ Level work displayed but I wasn’t prepared for the exceptional standard of work in Art, Design and Moving Images that I was about to see. This is a credit to the students who have obviously worked extremely hard and to their teachers for their direction and support.”

Work on view at the exhibition included that of Michal Jurkowski who received a special commendation from CCEA for achieving 100% both in his coursework and GCSE examination and also, the work of the Moving Image Arts students who attended the Film Nation Awards Ceremony in the British Film Institute in London in July, when they were the only school from Northern Ireland nominated for their animation programmes.

In total, 49 stations of Art work including ceramics were on display, each one manned by the student whose work was on view alongside Mac computers running the animation programmes which had been produced.

Mr Ryan Coyle, Head of Art and Design, at Integrated College Dungannon, congratulated the students on their showcase success saying, “You should all be very proud of the work which you have displayed here this evening. I am sure you are as overwhelmed as I am, to hear such positive comments and praise for all your hard work. Well done to each and every one of you, you are a pleasure to teach and your dedication and effort has shone through this evening – Congratulations”.
