Inspirational speakers to address Women’s Conference

BY ANNAMAY MCNALLY

SPEAKERS from the worlds of education and business have been lined up for the second annual Women’s Conference in Dungannon on Thursday.

The event, which takes place at the Square Box in the town’s Ranfurly Arts and Visitor Centre, has been organised to mark International Women’s Week, and will have as its theme, ‘Grow your own business’.

Key organiser, Deputy Mayor and Dungannon Council’s Political Gender Champion, Cllr Frances Burton, told the Tyrone Times the purpose of the event was also to encourage more women into political life and to reach their personal goals.

“We have the Chief Executive of Belfast Metropolitan College, Marie-Therese McGivern, as our first speaker”, explained Cllr Burton, “and her theme will be leadership.

“We also have Fiona Welsh, Results and Performance Coach, followed by Billy Dixon, Image Consultant, who has dressed Mary McAleese.

“Teresa O’Loughlin from Women in Business will also be present, as will Mary Keightley, Managing Director of Mind Associates.”

Cllr Burton, who will deliver the closing remarks at the conference, said she had received a lot of positive feedback from participants in last year’s event, with at least two women having since gone on to set up in business.

She continued: “This is all about ladies networking with each other, and I was thrilled with the number of women last year who contacted me after the event to say they had been enthused by the conference.

“Women very often don’t give themselves enough value for what they do, but it is the mums out there who are inspiring and influencing the next generation.”

Places for the Women’s Conference, which begins at 9.30am on Thursday, are by registration only.

Further information about the event is available from Dungannon Council.
