Launch of ‘eagerly awaited’ book

ANYONE interested in local history - and particularly history of the Coalisland and surrounding areas - will not want to miss an exciting book launch this Wednesday night, November 14.

The book, The Faire Field, has been compiled by James Walshe and Wilfred Dilworth, and will be launched officially at the Cohannon Inn at 8pm.

This eagerly awaited volume will include fresh looks at the site of the 1602 Mountjoy Fort, the engineer Davis Dukart and his involvement in the Coalisland Canal and other projects in east Tyrone.

Other subjects covered in the book include early local potteries, William Blacker and the Royal School lands during the 1830s, the Coalisland China pottery, and the quite remarkable, unique, and sharply observed reminiscences of early 20th century industrial Coalisland by the late Patrick H. Hughes.

The volume also carries a brief section of extremely rare poetry and prose by Clonoe cleric, the Rev. John Anketell. [1750-1832].

The book will be launched by the guest speaker, Roddy Hegarty, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Irish Historical Studies.

Light refreshments will be provided.

James and Wilfred extend a warm welcome to all.
