Life inside to help businesses on the outside
Esther Baird takes part in the Navigator leadership course that uses the experiences of prison management to help sustain businesses. INTT4012-062X
A BUSINESS consultant is heading to prison next month in the hope that time spent there will help scores of small businesses in the Mid Ulster area become more sustainable.
Esther Baird from the Purple Dot Consultancy, based at Dungannon Enterprise Centre, is going to jail of her own free will, without even having committed a crime or offence.
Her voluntary incarceration is one element of the Common Purpose leadership development course that also includes a hospital and production plant visit.
The course runs over two months.
Common Purpose is an independent organisation that aims to create better leaders at work and in society.
Its Navigator course deals with real-life issues and insights, which are neither classroom nor lecture-based.
The course also builds the confidence, stamina and determination of managers to meet complex challenges to lead with a global perspective.
Previous participants of the course included managers from companies such as Bombardier, British Airways, and PowerNI.
Ms Baird is currently working on business development programmes with Armagh City and District Council, Magherafelt District Council and Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council.
