Local groups to take part in the Community Leadership Forum

NICVA, in conjunction with the International Fund for Ireland (IFI), has now started year four of the Community Leadership Programme (CLP) for community and voluntary groups from Northern Ireland and the southern border counties.

Thirty groups from across Northern Ireland and the southern border counties will take part in the programme.

Two local groups are taking part in the programme namely Coalisland Residents Forum and Dungannon Youth Resource Centre.

The Community Leadership Programme is an exciting and innovative training and learning programme which aims to strengthen the leadership capacities of groups. Through these increased leadership skills, the Programme aims to assist groups in the development of sustainable, social, economic and community relations regeneration in their local areas.

The programme started with a round-table event, and now each group has nominated five individuals who will work towards achieving a level three award in Leadership from the Institute of Leadership and Management.

The group will have the opportunity to tailor a training programme to meet their individual needs and will also receive a bursary of £2,500 (€2,750) to undertake an action-learning project.

Úna McKernan from NICVA commented “This is now the fourth year of this very successful programme. Nearly 100 groups have so far completed the training and all of the groups are showing lots of evidence of improved leadership skills, which can only benefit how their groups are run and the local communities they operate in.”

The round-table events kicked off in Antrim this month and continued in Fermanagh. The events have proven to be very successful at bringing together clusters of groups in order for them to network and learn from each other.

John Carson from the International Fund for Ireland encouraged participants to give the time and effort required to complete this leadership programme.

He said: “The Fund is making a big investment in developing effective leadership skills for community groups in Northern Ireland and the southern border counties and it is now up to you to make the most of this opportunity.”
