An East Timorese man has been jailed for the murder of his estranged wife in Dungannon in August 2010.

Thirty eight year-old, Valdomar Da Concericao Silva of Belvedere Park in Dungannon, pleaded guilty to the stabbing of his wife Luisa, last week.

Mr Silva, a former employee of Moy Park, was cleared of the attempted murder of his wife’s new lover, his former boss Anselmo Tavares by a jury at Enniskillen Crown Court.

The judge presiding over the case, Judge David McFarland told Mr Silva that there was oly one sentence permitted in this case and that was life.

The court will sit again this week to determine the minimum tarriff that Silva must serve.

The court was told that on the day of the murder Silva left his house armed with a knife and a dumbell before stopping off at the Spar service station on the Gortmerron Link Road.

It is believed that the accused knew that Mr Tavares would stop at the shop enroute home from work. When Mr Tavares arrived at the filling station, he was confronted by Silva who attempted to throw a dumbell weight at him.

Having failed to catch Tavares, Silva attacked his wife with the kitchen knife, stabbing her six times and mortally wounding her after stabbing her in the abdomen.

Silva told police in an interview that he had brought the weight and knife to “frighten” Mr Tavares.
