MARA Project are here to help people in rural communities
THE MARA Project (Maximising Access in Rural Areas to grants, Services & Benefits) want to help improve the health and wellbeing of people living in rural areas in Northern Ireland.
The project is funded by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and delivered by the Public Health Agency (PHA).
The aim of MARA is to increase awareness of, and help households and individuals access local services, grants and benefits, and support rural dwellers living in, or at risk of, poverty and social exclusion.
COSTA – Community Organisations of South Tyrone & Areas Ltd - is delivering the MARA Project across Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council area and Armagh District Council area in partnership with TADA Rural Support Network.
If you fall within an eligible group such as:
- Person living in a rural area
- Farmers / Farm Family / Fishermen
- Older people
- Carers
- Lone / Single Parents
- Ethnic Minorities
- Disability
You may be eligible for a referral to:
- Benefit Entitlement Check
- Rural Community Transport
- Smart Pass
- Energy Savings Schemes (Warm Homes)
- Disabled Facilities Grant
- Home Safety Check
- Support Services
All those living in rural areas are strongly encouraged to take up this free support.
MARA recipient, John from Washingbay said, “Getting the loft insulation from the Warm Homes Scheme through the MARA project has been great, the house is so much warmer now, we definitely use less oil.”
MARA recipient, Jean from Loughgall stated, “I was delighted to get an extra smoke alarm installed through the Home Safety Check after a referral from the MARA Project, it really puts my mind at ease.”
