New Councillor

SOUTH Tyrone’s Sinn Fein party have nominated Dominic Molloy to be co-opted as a new member onto Dungannon District Council.

The vacancy arose after his party colleague Bronwyn McGahan was selected to replace local MP Michelle Gildernew as an MLA at the Stormont Assembly.

The changes are part of a party policy to end dual mandates and double jobbing for all its elected representatives.

Mr Molloy said he was honoured and delighted to be selected by the party to represent the people of Dungannon Borough Council. “Bronwyn will be an extremely hard act to follow, since her election last year she set about the task of representation of not only those who elected her but from all walks of social and political life”, said the father of four from Clonmore.

“She has worked tirelessly for many community groups in the town, and I promise to carry that work on and see it through to completion.

“Working with my fellow Dungannon town councillor Larry McLarnon, Bronwyn McGahan as our new MLA, Michelle Gildernew as our MP, and the entire Sinn Fein team, we will ensure a first rate service for the people of Dungannon and the borough. I look forward to playing a major role within that team.”

Dominic works as a Planning Manager for a large meat processing factory at Granville.

A Sinn Fein election worker and party activist from a young age, he officially joined the party in 1997.

He has held positions as Secretary and Chair in Dungannon Cumann, and also chair of the party’s South Tyrone Comhairle Ceantair.

He is also a member of Clonmore GAC, a committee member and under-age coach, a keen cyclist and has a wide interest in general sports.
