Peace Vigil in wake of threats to community group
Fr Paul Byrne addresses audience at the PSNI hosted public meeting held in Coalisland Parochial Centre INTT1912-140JS
A PEACE Vigil has been organised for Coalisland later this week, after threats were made to the founders of a cross-community organisation set up to tackle a rise in social problems including drug and alcohol abuse.
Local clerics, Fr Paul Byrne and Reverend Andrew Rawding, founders of the Coalisland Cares group, want the event, which takes place on Friday, International Day of Peace, to send the message that: “Revenge is not the route we want anyone to consider”.
Their call comes in the wake of threats issued to both Fr Byrne, Parish Priest, and local Rector, Reverend Rawding, as well as to members of the Coalisland community.
Police are aware of the threats, it has been confirmed.
The Peace Vigil will take place this Friday at approximately 3.30pm at Cornmill Carpark.
