Railway Park plan for Coalisland?
AMBITIOUS plans to breathe new life into the town of Coalisland look as though they could be one step closer to being realised.
A sub-committee of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council was told recently that efforts are being made to arrange a meeting with the Department of Social Development to have the proposal for a Railway Park dealt with “expeditiously”.
If the discussions prove fruitful, Coalisland could soon be home to a public park and walkway similar to Dungannon’s Railway Park, which has proven extremely popular with cyclists and pedestrians.
Coalisland is home to Gortgonis Amenity Centre, which boasts an athletics track, gym and playpark, as well as the very popular Canal walkway.
Meanwhile, plans to have areas of the town designated for street trading appear to have been reversed.
At a recent committee meeting, the council’s Senior Licensing Officer updated members on the issue and recommended that a resolution to designate an area at The Square be rescinded.
In addition, the meeting was told that, further to investigations, an area at Cornmill carpark is not to be designated for the purposes of street trading.
