Sentence deferred in nuisance calls case

A CASE in which probation services were said to have gone “over and above” their duty to assist has been deferred whilst additional reports are prepared.

Cookstown woman Josephine Moore 59, from Greenvale Drive was facing several counts of persistently making telephone calls causing needless anxiety between September 9 and December 14 2011.

A defence barrister told East Tyrone Magistrates Court his client had successfully completed a treatment programme and had been making good progress, but had reverted to making the calls again in both July and August this year, and files are to be sent to the PPS on this.

One call had been made the day after she completed the treatment programme. The defence accepted probation services had done a great deal to assist Moore and had agreed to undertake more assistance with her. District Judge John Meehan opted to defer sentencing until January 28 when further reports are to be supplied by probation.
