SF secure commitment to complete footpath
MAGHERA Sinn Féin councillor Seán Kerr has welcomed that there is, finally, a commitment to complete the final phase of the footpath on the Craigadick Road which will see the extension of the path over the Milltown Bridge.
After repeated lobbying it was with the intervention of our Mid-Ulster MLA, Francie Molloy, that a commitment was received from Minister Danny Kennedy that the project would be placed on the Autumn schedule of works.
Councilor Kerr said: “A month ago I took Francie Molloy to visit the bridge and he was shocked at the fact that the footpath ended at the bridge and actually posed a danger to anyone stepping off it as they would not be seen by oncoming traffic on the other side of the bridge.
“I have raised this matter with Roads Service on numerous occasions, including when they were presenting to Council, but had until now never received a satisfactory answer. Sinn Féin locally referred the matter to our MLA, Francie Molloy who agreed to raise the matter with the minister.
“Francie is now in possession of a letter from the minister in which he gives a clear commitment that the matter will be progressed at last. This is good news for those who use the path to access the Glen GAA grounds and will now be able, on completion of the path, to do so safely.”
