A FORMER South Derry woman is in the running to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Sinead Bradley is part of the band Inchequin who have been shortlisted to perform in RTE’s The Late Late Show.

Sinead’s dad Pat says the band, an Irish/Turkish collaboration, need votes from the public in order to qualify.

And he is urging local people to vote for the band.

The winning song will be selected from a list of five entrants and voted for by a panel of judges as well as the tele-vote.

“We would hope that everyone will take the opportunity to vote for Inchequin on the night and send the local lass through to represent Ireland in this year’s Eurovision,” he said.

“It is sure to be a keenly fought contest and every vote will count.”

Inchequin consist of Sinead, Hugh O’Neill, from Lurgan, and Turkish musicians they befriended during their stay in the country.

The song they will sing is entitled ‘Son Kez/The Last Time’, written and performed by Sinead and Hugh. It is being mentored by the legendary Irish songwriter, broadcaster and journalist Shay Healy, who along with many achievements penned the 1980 Eurovision winner for Johnny Logan, ‘What’s Another Year’.

Sinead was educated  at St Mary’s Grammar School in Magherafelt and also St Patrick’s College in her native Maghera.

Sinead’s family home was on Glen Road where her parents Pat and Bridie lived, until their recent move to Portstewart.

Music has been a passion for Sinead from an early age and she has performed throughout Ireland and Europe with Inchequin.

Sinead is an accomplished singer, songwriter and musican and plays guitar, mandolin, whistles, harmonica, and bodhran during her performances.

The Late Late Eurovision show will be screened on Friday February 22 where Inchequin and Sinead will perform live.

The Eurovision final will take place in Malmo, Sweden in May.
