Spotlight shone on Border Reivers

DONAGHMORE Historical Society will hold their next talk in The Heritage Centre on Monday, 11th February, at 8 p.m., when Mr. Jonathan Gray will speak on “The Reivers, Their Culture and Local Connections.”

The talk will focus on the Border Reivers of England and Scotland, their way of life and culture, before looking at their involvement in the Plantation of Ulster in the 17th century and examining their legacy upon local history.

Jonathan Gray has taken a keen interest in local history since moving with his family to live in Tyrone in 1994. In 2009 he was a founder member of Killeeshil and Clonaneese Historical Society and since then he has taken part in various local history projects, including an appearance on Lesser Spotted Ulster in 2012.

He will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming Reivers Conference, which is due to take place in the Ranfurly House Arts and Visitor Centre, Dungannon, on 28-29th March, 2013.

To prepare yourself for those two days before Easter, or just to find out something more about these families who migrated to Ulster around four hundred years ago and some of whose descendants are still here, drop into The Heritage Centre on Monday night at 8 o’clock.
