St Patrick’s College students excel at GCSE

St Patrick’s College celebrated another year of outstanding GCSE results. The Principal, Board of Governors and Teachers would like to congratulate the Students on their hard work and dedication which showed in their overall results.

The whole St Patrick’s College community are very much a team and work together to support our young people through their education with the aim of helping the students to fulfil their potential. This time of year is very stressful for both students and Parents as they await the results that will determine the next phase of their career pathway. Careers teachers and subject teachers will be on hand to provide valuable help and reassuring advice for all GCSE students.

Mrs Rosina O’Neill, Principal, was delighted with another outstanding performance by the GCSE students, well above the national average once again, “I am delighted with the GCSE results achieved by our class of 2012. The number of students achieving A* and A grades across the full range of curriculum subjects was a notable feature of this years successful cohort. 85% of our students achieved 5 or more subjects in the A-C range and 98% in the A-G range. 100% pass rate was achieved in 18 subjects.

Congratulations to the following top students Thomas Hagan, Kathryn McKiver, Niamh Kelly, Susan Fitzpatrick and Mark McConville.

“It is extremely rewarding to see the students excel both in academic and vocational subjects at GCSE, all the hard work, determination and commitment have paid dividends in terms of results and I would like to congratulate all students, parents and teachers on their hard work and hope they enjoy their success”

The Year 12 results again were excellent and have placed the students in a strong position to progress on whatever career pathway they have chosen next year. Over 75% of GCSE students have decided to continue their education at St Patrick’s College and study A Levels.”

Kathryn McKiverYear 12 and one of the top students at GCSE has decided to pursue A Level studies in the College. “I am delighted to have done so well at GCSE and want to return to St Patrick’s College to do A Levels. I have been at the school for five years and am very happy here. We know the staff and how hard they work on your behalf and we have a school building and facilities which are second to none”.

St Patricks College creates a safe modern learning environment in which Year 12s moving into Sixth Year get the chance to develop their potential and ultimately be successful at A Level.

The Principal added “We have strived to provide a diverse range of subjects at A Level, not only to aid progression from GCSE, but providing a relevant modern curriculum to meet the needs and demands of the working world also helping the student make the transition to third level education, university or college, employment and working life. Each subject is taught by a group of dedicated and talented specialist teachers, who have gained invaluable knowledge and experience in this area and can guide the student through the subject with sound advice and direction, giving each of our young people the attention and care they require.

Career Education and Guidance is an important ingredient in GCSE success. Expert Career teachers are on hand to help the student realise the best A Level combination to individual success. The Careers Department are a specialist unit dedicated to helping the student make informed decisions about their future career pathway in terms of university, college, employment and life long learning. All GCSE students moving into Sixth Year students will have a Personal Career Plan built upon by Careers classes, Work Experience, educational trips, open days, lectures, outside speakers and their own aspirations and research.

Our examinations results at A Level are excellent and all of our students fulfil their aspirations by going on to university, third level college or employment. A fact St Patrick’s College is very proud of. But life at the College is not just about qualifications and results. We provide a variety of enrichment courses such as outdoor pursuit residentials, first aid qualifications, preparation for driving, catering, drama , PE, volunteer work in a Romanian orphanage and competitive U-18 sports to name but a few. “
