Street trading locations to be reviewed

A NUMBER of roads and streets in the Dungannon, Moy and Caledon areas, are to be reviewed as locations for street trading.

Dungannon Council will consider any requests to have new areas designated, and look at existing designations with a view to rescinding, varying or keeping the resolution, on a yearly basis.

During a recent council sub-committee meeting, three areas which could be considered for removal or restriction were highlighted.

Those were: Main Street, Caledon, due to lack of licences granted or applications made; Charlemont Street, Moy, due to its ‘unsuitability’ with regard to traffic and pedestrian safety; and the layby on Ballynakilly Road approaching the Tamnamore Roundabout, due to complaints about parking and changes at the Cohannon site which now also provides hot food.

One councillor also felt that Anne Street in Dungannon is “unsuitable for late night trading” and that the sale of hot food should be prohibited at this location, while others queried the designation of the layby on Ballynakilly Road as a park and ride area.

It was agreed that the council be urged to proceed with a review of street trading at the three locations highlighted, and clarification be sought regarding the park and ride issue.
