Thought wife’s insurance covered car

A DUNGANNON man who thought his wife’s insurance policy covered him to drive her car has had points endorsed on his licence.

Peter McHugh, of Mournbeg Drive, was stopped by police on the Ballygawley Road on September 10th last.

He was asked to produce his insurance to police at Dungannon police station.

It later transpired he was not covered to drive the vehicle.

Defending McHugh a solicitor said the incident was an “oversight” by the 46 year-old, who has an insurance policy on his own vehicle.

District Judge John Meehan imposed a fine of £250, plus a court levy charge of £15, and endorsed six penalty points on McHugh’s licence.

He was given four weeks to pay.
