Town’s jobless rate up nearly 5%
DUNGANNON’S jobless total has risen by almost five per cent since last month, with 1,741 people now claiming benefits in the area.
In the neighbouring council area of Cookstown, meanwhile, the number of people out of work increased by 3.4 per cent for the month of July, with 1,144 claiming benefits.
In both the Dungannon and Cookstown areas, there were more men out of work than women - for Dungannon the total number of males claiming benefits was 1,083, compared with 658 females.
There were 722 men without employment in the Cookstown area during the same period, compared with 422 women.
The figures were revealed in the latest statistical report from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment.
Across Northern Ireland as a whole, the percentage of the population claiming benefits during the month of July was 3.2 per cent.
The largest increase in job losses was in professional occupations, followed by sales and customer service occupations, while the skilled trade occupations showed the largest decrease, followed by process, plant and machine operatives.
