Perry Street Virtual Reality Scheme being shortlisted for a national award

DUNGANNON Town Centre’s Virtual High Street at Perry Street has been shortlisted for an award in the category ‘Improving the Business Mix’ Category at the Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM) Awards 2012.

Last June, Perry Street was transformed from a run down terrace of derelict and boarded up properties into a living street, complete with new and inviting “interiors” seen through the refurbished shop windows.

The project was the first of its kind in Northern Ireland and involved the painting and tidying up of derelict properties and the installation of pictorial scenes into boarded-up window openings to create a “living” appearance and street scene.

The Town Centre Management Awards have been running for many years and showcase the achievements of Town Centre Managers, BID Managers and Partnerships across the UK & Ireland. They are instrumental in providing rewards and recognition for the valuable programs being delivered by dedicated professionals to improve our High Streets, Town Centres and Cities in the face of many challenges.  They demonstrate very clearly the value that town centre management brings.

Martin Blackwell, Chief Executive for ATCM and Chair of the judging panel, confirmed, “The standard of entries was incredibly high across the UK. It really does highlight the quality and variety of projects being undertaken in our towns and cities, through Town Centre Management and Business Improvement Districts, to enhance our town centres for the benefit of all. To be shortlisted for an Award is a great achievement and well deserved”.

Mayor Cllr Phelim Gildernew said: “I am delighted that Dungannon has been shortlisted for a national award for our work in regenerating the town centre.  Dungannon beat off competition from very strong contenders in the ‘Improving the Business Mix’ category’. It is very encouraging that the hard work we do in partnership with Dungannon Regeneration Partnership which led to the innovative Perry Street project has been recognised in this way.”
