Mid Ulster Councillor Malachy Quinn has welcomed the news that a proposed speed limit of 30mph will soon be adopted on Lisaclare Road and Lakeview Park in Killen.

The changes, which will also see the 40mph speed limit on the Coole Road extended to cover the Nursery School and Coole Cottages, come after an onsite meeting with TransportNI.

This will give drivers plenty of notice to cut their speed before reaching the school and that will vastly improve road safety for those living in the area - Cllr Quinn

Speaking about the announcement Cllr Quinn said: “I am delighted with this news and even more delighted for the residents of Killen who have been asking for this speed limit for many years. This is a great result.

“I have been working with those residents since I was elected in May and after another site meeting today with TransportNI it’s been confirmed that a 30mph [limit] will be installed on both the Lisaclare Road and Lakeview Park.

“These roads take in several housing estates with many young families who have expressed concern to me over the last year about the speed of cars in the area and the dangers for children playing in the area.”

Cllr Quinn added: “I’m also delighted to announce that the 40mph speed limit on the Coole Road will be extended to cover the Nursery School as well as the Coole Cottages.

“This will give drivers plenty of notice to cut their speed before reaching the school and that will vastly improve road safety for those living in the area.”

He did voice his disappointment that no changes would be made to the speed limit on Mountjoy Road.

But added: “I will continue to press both Transport NI and the PSNI on this issue.”
