Transport Minister Michelle McIlveen has announced major strengthening works to Verners Bridge in Tamnamore, near Dungannon.

Work to the bridge is due to start in mid-March and is expected to be completed in June 2016.

The extensive contract work includes strengthening, refurbishment and painting of the existing steel structure.

The Minister said: “This is a major investment for the local area. Verners Bridge on the Tamnamore Road is an important link road for local access and is in close proximity to the M1 motorway. The old bridge will be sympathetically restored enabling it to be used for many years to come.”

The bridge works are being carried out on behalf of Transport NI by HBS (Highway Barrier Solutions), Castlereagh, Belfast.

Meanwhile, Donaghmore District Community Association has been awarded a major lottery grant.

The group provides support for the local community.

The project received a £10,000 grant to fund an environmental plan to make improvements to Donaghmore and Castlecaulfield.
