A teenage son of a former leading Co Fermanagh GAA coach, jailed last year for making false VAT returns, was in court himself on Monday accused of involvement in fraud.

John James Moane, who will be 19 on Wednesday, appeared before Dungannon Crown Court where his 47-year-old father of six, Gerald Moane, was jailed for 16 months last September for involvement in a six-year, three quarters of a million pound VAT fraud.

Moane junior, also from Teigeshill Road, Fivemiletown, Co Tyrone, released on continuing bail, will be sentenced next month following preparation of reports from the probation services.

He had faced a total of six charges, including one of furnishing a false VAT return in January last year, and five charges of having articles in connection with fraud.

However, they were not proceeded with following his guilty plea to a single charge of ‘possessing articles’ for use in a fraud.

No details of his offending were given to the court, but Her Honour Judge McReynolds was told that a set of agreed written facts would be supplied to the court in the coming days.
