Two injured after spate of crashes on icy roads

ICY road conditions led to a number of collisions in the Dungannon area early on Friday morning, with one woman rescued from her car by firefighters.

In total, four crashes, involving seven vehicles, occurred between 6am and 7.30am, in the Derrycourtney Road, Eglish Road and Woodlough Road areas.

A 32 year-old woman was taken to hospital suffering from neck and back injuries after her car left the Woodlough Road at around 7am.

Two fire appliances from Dungannon and one from Armagh attended the scene, along with ambulance personnel.

Meanwhile, one man, understood to be aged 20, was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which were not believed to be life threatening after his vehicle crashed on the Derrycourtney Road, Caledon, at approximately 6am.

And five vehicles were involved in two separate collisions on the Eglish Road, Dungannon, within a 10 minute period between 7.15am and 7.25am on Friday.

A PSNI spokesperson urged motorists to exercise extra caution when driving in icy conditions.

“Reduce your speed, keep your distance and allow extra time for you journey”, the spokesman continued.
