A NEW scheme to encourage students to avail of the benefits of healthy eating has been launched at St Joseph’s College in Coalisland.
Pupils at the school, in a video interview with the Tyrone Times, say the initiative, whereby students are offered free fruit at snack times, has proven extremely popular there.
St Joseph’s College have always promoted Healthy Eating and Exercise to encourage their students to look after the body and the mind.
As part of the GCSE PE course the benefits of a healthy diet and hydrating the body with water are something that are paramount to their Healthy Lifestyle Profile.
The Home Economics Department also promote the Healthy Eating Plate and provide a broad knowledge of the nutritional value of foods.
The fruit has been made available through the Extended Schools Programme in association with local supplier, Dynes’.
Water is available from the PE Department also so pupils can rehydrate and stay fully alert throughout their lessons.
