Cookstown girl Jemma Howie has reached the Grand Final of the Ultimate Beauty UK and Ireland Competition.

The 20 year-old full-time student will compete with 30 other finalists in a bid to be crowned the Ultimate Beauty UK and Ireland.

Jemma decided to enter after finding out about the contest online, “I became involved in the competition as Taylor Rae (the director) messaged me on Facebook asking me if I would be interested in the competition and that’s when I decided to enter it,” she said.

As part of the competition, each contestant has do fundraise for the Make a Wish Foundation charity which grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions. Since being established in the UK in 1986, they have granted more than 8,000 wishes.

Jemma continued: “I will be doing a sponsored abseil down the Europa Hotel on 18th May to do my part fundraising for the Make a Wish Foundation charity. I am terrified of heights but I decided this is one way to overcome my fears! I will also be asking local shops round Cookstown to hold a donation tin at their counters for the public to donate to the charity.” Jemma will compete in the Grand Final on July 1st which will be held in Bellini’s in Newry and the Little Fashion Boutique based in Cookstown have kindly offered to sponsor Jemma’s dress for the party wear round of the competition.
