A well-known and respected couple from the Cookstown area have passed away, just hours apart.

Mr Bobby Armstrong, of Stewart Avenue, passed away peacefully in Antrim Area Hospital on Wednesday of last week (29th January).

His wife Norma, passed away suddenly at their home the following day, both were in their 80’s.

Mr Armstrong was the former proprietor of the Silver Saddle pub in Stewartstown and before that he had been invovled in Armstrong Dairies in Cookstown.

DUP MLA for Mid-Ulster Ian McCrea told the MAIL he was ‘saddened’ to learn of the popular couple’s passing.

and that the wider community were ‘in shock’.

He said: “It is very sad, and a big shock for the family and the whole community. They have left a lasting legacy behind them, they were devoted to each other and as many people I have spoken to in the community have said, one simply couldn’t live without the other.

“It is very hard for the family to deal with a double trauma like this and myself and the wider community will keep them in our thoughts and prayers. I hope to learn from their great example in my own marriage, and I think young couples getting married nowadays should do the same. It is very poignant the way it has all happened.”
