A CHARITY in Dungannon has helped almost 3,000 cancer patients in the last year alone, a staggering increase from the 40 people who came to them for support when they opened their doors 12 years ago.

With an ever growing number of people of all ages being diagnosed with various forms of cancer, management at Cancer Choices have testified to a year on year rise in the demand for their services, which include everything from help with accessing benefits to simply being a shoulder to lean on.

In an interview ahead of an event aimed at letting the general public know more about the work they do, Cancer Choices Volunteer Manager, Claire Mellon, also explained the charity is seeing more young people seeking support, with service users now hailing not just from the Dungannon area, but as far afield as Cookstown, Magherafelt, Portadown and Armagh.
