Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín officially opened new facilities at Coalisland Na Fianna GAC on Saturday.

DCAL, through Sport NI, provided funding of £223,875 from the Sports Matters Community Capital Programme towards the development of a training area and adjoining multi-use games area at the club.

The Minister said: “These impressive new pitches can offer year-round sporting facilities not only to the club but to the wider community.

“Coalisland Na Faianna GAC, in common with GAA clubs across the country, is a key part of the local area. It provides a pathway to fitness and physical activity, with all the health benefits this brings. It is also a social hub which brings people together, and a centre for the celebration of heritage and culture.

“It is important that clubs continue their good work in reaching out and encouraging participation. With these new facilities, a club with a long history can look forward to a bright future.

“It is important that these facilities are fully utilised. In particular, I would like to encourage more young women to become involved in sport.”

The Minister met with players, volunteers and club members, as well as representatives from the wider community.

The Minister added: “I am pleased to have this opportunity to meet players from a range of teams from seniors through to juniors, and present medals to the Tyrone U16 county champions. In particular, it is good to see the younger players engaging in the game.”
