Court

An Aughnacloy man has pleaded guilty to the theft of a watch from a shop.

Terrence McDonagh, 23, of Orchard Park, Aughnacloy, admitted the theft in relation to an incident on December 13, 2012.

A court heard how police attended Irwins shop in the town following a report that a watch had been stolen. Mr McDonagh was identified and located by police a short distance away. The injured party told officers she had found the guarantee for the watch on the ground and police located the empty watch box a short distance from where Mr McDonagh was found.

A defence solicitor told the court that drink and drugs were fairly common in Mr McDonagh’s life and that he was known to the shop owners as it was his local shop.

Deputy District Judge Laura Ievers told Mr McDonagh he had a record ‘for dishonesty’ and that his incident had occurred just 1 day after he had been dealt with by the court for theft.

Judge Ievers sentenced him to 2 months in prison to run concurrently with his current sentence.
