PAPER-based records for Dungannon District patients will soon be a thing of the past in a digital move that will transform the local health system.
A new electronic record system is being rolled out across the Southern Trust region, which includes the local council district, bringing the health system closer to a paperless NHS.
At the moment local ambulance drivers cannot access a full medical history of someone they are picking up in an emergency, while GPs and hospitals still struggle to share digital records.
Health chiefs say the Northern Ireland Electronic Care Record (NIECR) system, which has been launched by Health Minister Edwin Poots, will improve the speed, quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery across the Southern Trust Area.
Siobhan Hanna, Southern Trust Assistant Director of Informatics said health and social care professionals will now have easy access to key information about a person’s medical history.
