A HISTORIC Victorian building in Dungannon has reopened after new life was breathed into it.
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland officially opened Gardeners Hall, which dates back to the mid-1800s when it was commissioned by Lord Ranfurly as a Free Gardener Lodge for a society of gardeners.
The hall had fallen into dereliction in recent years and the restoration and refurbishment project by Dungannon council has brought it back to its former glory.
Praising the project, Mr McCausland said: “I have been very impressed by the work done at Gardeners Hall, in particular by the Milltown Superadults Club. Their senior citizen programme offers older people a range of activities and the chance to interact with others.”
Dungannon and South Tyrone mayor Sean McGuigan added: “When the ownership of Gardeners Hall was offered to the council, it was seen as the perfect window of opportunity for provision of a community facility and a base of operations for local community and voluntary groups.”
Executive funding of £196,000 has paid for a kitchen, a function room, a meeting room and storage.
