Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland officially opened the new Family Learning Centre at St Patrick’s Primary School, Dungannon.
The Family Learning Centre provides an IT suite and a large multi- purpose room, which will be used by the school children during the day.
In the evenings a range of parenting support courses will be run including English language, computer training and wellbeing practices.
The project aims to promote the academic success of children by encouraging and supporting parental involvement in learning.
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said: “Parental support, knowledge and involvement are critical to the success of each child.
This Family Resource Centre, which lies at the heart of the community, will offer invaluable services and support to both children and parents, including many parents from the migrant community, by providing much needed activities and educational courses.”
Minister McCausland added: “Projects like this one at St Patrick’s Primary school make a significant difference to help transform the lives of local communities that have suffered from years of social deprivation.
“To date the Dungannon Neighbourhood Renewal Area has benefited from over £3.9million of Neighbourhood Renewal funding.
“Only through investing time and money in these areas can we ensure that everyone, regardless of background, is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.”
The Family Learning Centre will also be made available to the local community in the evenings and at weekends.
