THE village of Moy as more reason than most to be ‘pretty in pink’ as it gears up for the start of the Giro d’Italia.

Members of the village’s Square Wheels Cycle Club will be decorating The Square on Monday evening, ahead of a week-long series of events which will culminate in the arrival of a group from a famous Italian cycle club to watch the beginning of the Giro in Northern Ireland.

When the Earl of Charlemont came back from his Grand Tour in the 1760’s he was so impressed by the Italian town of Bosco Marengo in Piedmont that he decided to build the village of Moy as a replica.

Now the Novese Fausto Coppi club who are based just outside Bosco Marengo have organised an exchange trip with Moy Square Wheels.

Square Wheels chairman, Conal Hamill, said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for the Square Wheels club and the village of Moy. We have been twinned with Bosco Marengo for many years but this is the first time such an exchange will have taken place. We are delighted to have a number of members of the Novese Fausto Coppi club as our guests us for the start of the Giro in Northern Ireland.”

The Italians will be hosted by Square Wheels members, some of whom will then travel to watch the Giro stages in Piedmont.
