THE new Ballygawley Roundabout - which was opened three years ago as part of the multi-million A4 Dual Carriageway project - has been described as an “eyesore” at a recent meeting of a Dungannon Council sub-committee.
Replacing the former Ballygawley Roundabout a short distance away, the new road scheme acts as a gateway linking traffic travelling from Dungannon and Belfast with Enniskillen and Omagh.
Councillors at the recent meeting heard that, while a planting exercise had taken place at the roundabout, persistent vehicular intrusion as a result of lane confusion had destroyed the work.
Concern was also expressed about safety, with suggestions that directional arrows be incorporated at the roundabout.
The council’s Director of Development advised those present at the meeting that a contractual agreement was in place regarding the roundabout, and that he would make contact with the contractor and Roads Service about the concerns raised.
