A Caledon primary school, which was praised by education inspectors for its caring and supportive ethos, is opening its doors to parents of prospective pupils.
St Joseph’s Primary School, Caledon will be hosting the open morning on Thursday December 19 from 11am -12pm.
The school is set in a village location in the parish of Aghaloo. The modern building, extensive grounds and surrounding countryside provide an attractive and stimulating environment in which the children learn and play.
The school has been established on the Derrycourtney Road site since the 1980s and is very proud of its academic achievements and cultural traditions.
The school is very integrated within the community and pupils are active participants in community events and projects. Currently the school is involved in the Primary Curriculum Partnership Programme, where the pupils have opportunities to engage in shared lessons with other schools.
As part of the Extended Schools Programme pupils have the opportunity to develop ICT skills through the use of ipads. The Accelerated Reading Programme offers the pupils a highly motivating and enjoyable reading experience for P3-7, while the basketball club is hugely popular.
The school prides itself on the quality of provision in pastoral care, high academic success, and good relationships at all levels. This was reflected in the school’s inspection report:
“A very caring and supportive ethos permeates throughout the school...The children report that they enjoy school; they show motivation and enjoyment in their learning and are keen to talk about their work”. ETI Nov 2007
St. Joseph’s P.S. is an inclusive primary school and welcomes applications from all prospective pupils.
