Local representatives from the Dungannon area have united in condemning the sign which was erected in Moygashel warning landlords not to lease their properties to foreign nationals.

The sign which was erected on the Jacksonville Road, in the village but has since been removed read: “Attention Landlords, leasing property to foreign nationals will not be tolerated.”

Bernadette McAliskey, Co-ordinator of STEP (South Tyrone Empowerment Programme) told the TIMES she was ‘saddened’ when she learnt of the sign in Moygashel and urged anyone who encounters any ‘other racist things’ to report them to the local council.

DUP Councillor Kim Ashton told the TIMES she was ‘surprised’ to hear about the sign and was glad that it has since been removed.

Dungannon UUP Councillor Walter Cuddy told the TIMES he was ‘disappointed’ and hoped those who erected the sign would see sense.
