Sex offender broke court order by staying in Coalisland

A convicted sex offender has appeared at East Tyrone Magistrates Court charged with breach of sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) and sex offender failing to notify change of address.

Keith James Morton, 41 who’s address was given Moybane Road, Drumageever, Enniskillen was charged with the offences after he failed to notify police he was living at a different address and that he was in a relationship with a woman.

A court was told that Mr Morton was under two prohibitions under his SOPO which meant he could not be in any relationship with a female without informing the PSNI and Probation services. He was also banned from using an telephone services to harass or pester females. Mr Morton denied that he was in a relationship but police received information that he had a girlfriend who lived in the Coalisland area and that he stayed at the address a few nights a week.

The constable spoke to the injured party who Mr Morton was in a relationship with and she said she didn’t know he was a registered sex offender and that he stayed a few nights a week. Judge Bernie Kelly imposed a conditional discharge for two years.
