Not many people would think of jumping into a boxing ring with only 6 weeks of training but a group of over 20 local ladies and gents have taken up the challenge to raise awareness for the town’s MS Group.

Cookstown MS Help and Support Group is a charitable organisation, independent of the larger MS charity institutions, a group of individuals with MS who come together to improve their lives.

A registered charity, the group was formed in November 2004; Members can meet with each other in a friendly and relaxed environment and have a chat and a cup of coffee and exchange views on their condition and general health. The group offers medical benefits such as physiotherapy, reflexology bi-aura and reiki (healing hands). There are also social benefits like table quizzes, weakest link, day trips, etc. The group meets every Thursday morning Cookstown at around 11am.

Cookstown Boxing Club has given their time and effort to train up these brave individuals for their White Collar Boxing Night being held in Heaven Night Club on 5th July. Joe from Cookstown BC says “we are delighted to be involved with this event which will raise funds and awareness for the local MS help and support Group. Tickets are available from all participants, The Dojo on Union St and BlackHorse Bar. Visit www.cookstownms.org.uk/
