FOUR Cookstown men will take on some of the best athletes in the world as the NI Fire Service aim to reclaim the gold they won two years ago in New York.
Noel, Colum and Connor Mullan will be joined by Sean Scullion as part of two teams competing in the Gaelic football competitions.
Both Noel and Colum were part of the team which won gold in the open section in 2011 but this year are taking part in the new over 35 section.
“We like to call it the Masters,” joked Colum. “It’s taking place at The Dub in Belfast. They are expecting 67 countries to take part and over 7,000 competitors so it is a major event.”
For his co-worker Connor this will be his first time competing at the WPFG.
“I’m the debutant from Cookstown Station,” he told the MAIL. “This is my Olympics and I’m really looking forward to it.
“You’re working along with boys in the Fire Service that could save your life some day so the camaraderie that is in the team is so different to club football.”
Noel said, “Donegal Guards we think might be a bit handy, but we’ve a fair few good players ourselves.”
