There were amazing scenes in Galbally on Friday morning as mourners paid their respects to singing chimney sweep Eugene Campbell with a fitting display of traditional music and dance.
The community was left in shock when Eugene died in a workplace accident on Monday.
“One of life’s gentlemen,” according to Carol Doey, Eugene had walked one of his daughters down the isle just 11 days before.
The Donaghmore man was said to be the last man to use brushes to clean chimneys, but his first love was music.
He had played in bands and as a solo performer for many years.
Traditional musicians and Ceili dancers performed in front of Eugene’s coffin before his funeral at the Church of St John the Baptist in Galbally on Friday morning.
One of the songs played was the Mountains of Pomeroy.
He was later laid to rest in St Patrick’s Cemetery in Donaghmore.
