A boy has been taken to hospital following an accident involving a car at a pedestrian crossing in Cookstown at around 12.30pm this afternoon [Friday].

Witnesses reported that the youngster, who is thought to be around 11 or 12-years-old, was hit by a red Volkwagen Golf at the Chapel Street crossing. He was understood to be alone at the time.

The lady driver, who remained at the scene to help police with their enquiries, appeared to be quite shaken by the incident.

Both police and ambulance attended, but news is yet to emerge on the youngster’s condition.

A priest was also present.
