A Polish woman from Castleblayney, Co Monaghan was handed a two month prison term, suspended for three years, for the theft of groceries worth £145 from Tesco Dungannon.

The court heard how Jurgita Sakalauskaite, 29, from the Orchard Blacklands was arrested when police were called to deal with a “female shop lifter” Tesco had detained.

CCTV showed Sakalauskaite “put items of meat into a bag for life”.

Judge Meehan told the accused: “I have a dim view of people who travel into Northern Ireland for shop lifting. It indicates a level of forward planning.”
