An Augher apprentice has been fined £450 after he was caught driving a car in a dangerous condition.

Ross Burns, 20, from Aghindarragh Road, was stopped in the Ballygawley area on the afternoon of February 7 because he had no rear registration plates.

Police subsequently discovered a number of defects to the car including three tyres, exhaust and silencer system, and light. The car also had no mirrors and had no MOT.

Mr Blaine Nugent, defending, told the court that the car was in “deplorable condition” and was scrapped two weeks later.

He said Burns had driven on a five mile round trip to meet a buyer for the car’s alloys - which were the only thing of value on the vehicle.

Mr Nugent described how his client had taken a chance to meet the buyer.

District Judge John Meehan imposed three penalty points and fines totalling £450.
