A Dungannon based youth dance group will be packing up their bags and heading out of town this summer to represent the north of Ireland.

Sutemos - Northern Ireland’s only integrated youth dance group, is a DU Dance (NI) initiative. The young people, aged 12-24 years, have been invited to take part in the Irish Youth Dance Festival at the Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire on the 28th June.

Led by local Dance Artist, Sheena Kelly, who is originally from Dungannon, the group, which is made up of young people from a wide range of cultural and educational backgrounds, is now busy rehearsing for the festival.

They are excited to have been given this opportunity and the chance to showcase their work alongside other youth dance groups from across Ireland.

It’s a chance for each young person to grow, develop, learn, perform, make friends and build networks for the future.

For many of the participants this will be an opportunity of a life time and an experience they’ll remember forever. “This is going to be my biggest performance yet and I can’t wait”, says Matas.

Sutemos needs to raise £600 to cover their expenses to make this opportunity possible and are busy now arranging hikes, raffles, cakes sales and quizzes.

They could do with your help though too and there is an online donation page at www.mydonate.bt.com/eventsd/sutemos/134331

Any amount you can give, no matter how small, will make a big difference for our talented and hard-working young dancers.

Gilly Campbell, Drama & Dance Officer at the Arts Council, added; “DU Dance do a wonderful job introducing young people to dance and the creative arts and we are delighted to be able to support their hard work in showcasing what Northern Ireland has to offer to both national and international audiences.

“We are extremely proud of our dance credentials and wish all those in Sutemos the very best of luck at the festival this summer.”
