DUNGANNON SWIFTS 0 LINFIELD 1

Ivan Sproule made it win number 10 for leaders Linfield by scoring the only goal of the game at Stangmore Park.

Seven minutes into the second half the ex-Hibs attacker capitalised on a mistake in the Swifts defence and maintained his composure to apply the finish.

The victory keeps David Healy’s men joint top with champions Crusaders while Dungannon, who had Rodney McAree in charge for his first league game, remain in trouble.

Linfield shaded the verdict early doors however the first real threat was a curling shot by Swifts striker Paul McElroy which Ross Glendinning acrobatically pushed around his right post.

McElroy’s team-mate Dougie Wilson then fired over from distance before the Blues ended the half strongly.

Andy Waterworth turned sharply and fizzed past a post before defender Jimmy Gallacher had a header from a corner cleared off the line.

Moments later another set-piece delivery was headed against the crossbar by Mark Haughey with Guy Bates somehow nodding over with the goal at his mercy.

The leaders began the second half with a greater sense of urgency and just seven minutes in took the lead. Andy Coleman was short-changed by a poor header back, Sproule nipped in to round the Swifts goalkeeper and roll the ball into the net.

Waterworth then steered into the side-netting before Dungannon responded through Cormac Burke whose goalbound pile-driver was headed away by the impressive Callacher.
